Lokichogio Sub-County, a newly established administrative unit within Turkana County, has officially commenced operations, aligning with the government’s policy to improve service delivery and strengthen security in the region. This development follows the successful carving out of Lokichogio Sub-County from Turkana West Sub-County, aimed at facilitating more efficient governance and addressing the specific needs of the local population.
According to the 2019 census, Lokichogio Sub-County is home to a population of 68,355 individuals. The creation of this sub-county is a strategic move to bring governance and public services closer to the people, ensuring their needs are met effectively and promptly.
Lokichogio Sub-County will be subdivided into four divisions, namely Nanam, Lokichogio, Songot, and Nadapal. These divisions will serve as administrative units to streamline governance and enhance local representation. The establishment of six locations and fourteen sub-locations within the sub-county will further contribute to efficient service delivery and facilitate grassroots development.
