The Ministry of Education will start inspecting private schools across the country to ensure they have adequate facilities for junior secondary schools.
This comes at a time when the first batch of Grade 7 learners are expected to join the Junior Secondary schools under the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) program.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, speaking at Mwiki Secondary School where he had gone to launch CBC classrooms, said the exercise will aid in ensuring a seamless transition in devoid of any hurdles.”We will inspect private schools to see if they are prepared for the rollout of junior secondary. From tomorrow or the next day, we will start with Moi Education Centre in Kibra constituency then proceed to Runda to ascertain the level of preparedness,” said Magoha as quoted by The Standard.
CS Magoha further stated that the ministry has so far identified about 1,200 classrooms in private schools, and will be expecting 5,000 before January 2023.They have assured us of 5,000 of classrooms before the end of the year as of now, they have already put up 1,200 classrooms,” he noted.As the CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition, he reiterated that the government has constructed 10,000 classes across the country and is training 60,000 teachers.
According to Magoha, 2.5 million students will be transitioning to the junior secondary schools come January.
