After secondary education, all the students always have full of expectations to get good results with main aim of joining Universitiy to persue of their choice. Failure to get the required Universitiy minimum cut off points, these group of students are always forced by the situation to be self sponsored students to study different courses of their choice.
Different institutions charged different amount of tution fee and on acritical analysis it’s clear evidence that self sponsored students do pay almost twice amount of money that Wich government sponsored students pay and even some goes an extra mile to pay upto double the tution fee. Both self sponsored and government sponsored students do use same facilities and also courses offered are thesame but it’s unfortunate that there is still this big difference between this two groups of these students when comparing on basis of fee payment. This high amount of fee paid do discourages many students who fail to attain government sponsorship plan hence many of them do not get that chance to continue with their studies due to lack of enough funds required.
On the other point many of them are forced to defer their studies and even some end up cutting short their studies because of lack of sufficient funds for their studies. The institutions should be advised to atleast lower the amount of tution fee paid by these category of students to easen their studies just same to how other category of students have the easier way for their studies. Let them not hike the fee since it has discouraged many students to opt to other activities instead of focusing on their studies while in school with an aim to earn a living just as other students.
Government should chip in and help in this situation since many Students are almost taking deferment letters because of this high fee paid in most of the instructions in kenya.
